Trek to Triund

If you love mountains and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, then this is the perfect place for you.

Triund is one of the most popular trek and is rated from moderate to easy trek. It is at the height of 2975 meters above the sea level and from here you can have the most spectacular view of snow capped Dhaulandar range on one side and the Kangra Valey on the other.

How to reach Mcleodganj?

The Triund is 18 kilometers from Dharamshala. There are many ways to reach Dharamshala, but the best one would to book a Volvo Bus from ISBT, Kashmere Gate, New Delhi. You can easily book a bus online via various websites. Once you reach Dharamsala Bus Stand you can board a bus for McLeodGanj (bus fare is 12/- INR) or a private taxi (may cost 450/- INR) to reach McLeodganj.

You can have a stay at a hotel in McleodGanj and explore this wonderful place which is well known for Dalai Lama’s Temple. For amazing Hotel Deals you may refer to this website:

How to reach Triund?

The best way to start your trek to Triund is to hire a taxi from Mcleodganj to Galu Devi Temple and from here the distance is 7 kilometers. It takes around 3 to 4 hours to reach Triund. It is an unambiguous trail towards Triund and it goes through a beautiful mixed forest of oak, deodar and rhododendron. The trek in considered easy to moderate and if you are trekking for the first time then it will be a great experience for you. You will also find a few cafes on the way to Triund. So, you don’t have to worry about the food and water. On the trek you will find small to big rocks. So, watch your steps carefully. The last one kilometer of the trek is the most difficult part and is known as “22 Curves” because it includes 22 steep curves before you reach Triund.

Where to stay and what to eat?

The best place to stay in Truind is on the mountain itself as you can either take a tent on rent before starting your trek from various shops that are in Mcleodganj or you can have a tent from the four shops that are located at the top. The tent costs around 500 INR which can be used by two people. They also provide various things to eat. If you are not a fond of tents then you may stay at a Forest Guest House. However, they have limited rooms and it requires advance booking that needs to be done from Dharamshala.

At night you can have dinner from the shops as they provide full meals if you inform them in the evening. They also provide Bonfire to enhance your experience. Trust me, the night at Triund is the best time to find peace.

If you are adventurous enough then you may go to Snowline which is another 2 kilometers from Triund or you can start your way back to Mcleodganj the next morning.
